ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian slender tuna is a fish caught commercially in coastal Queensland and northern New South Wales waters. A study by Australia's CSIRO ranks the fish first among 79 seafood species for beneficial oil content and composition and as the country's healthiest seafood. Per 100 grams, the tuna has 3,700 milligrams of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, compared with a 235 milligram average for fin fish and just 19 milligrams for chicken and lamb. These fatty acids have health benefits including protection against heart disease, strokes, and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, cooking produced little degeneration in those benefits. The fish is caught as a by-product when trawling, and gains its high oil content because it feeds on krill, squid, and small fish that themselves contain unusually high amounts of oil.
