Crispy Fried Yam Ring With Meat





Yam ring is a popular dish among the Chinese. It is usually served on special occasions like during Chinese weddings and Chinese New Year. The ingredients to be served together with the yam ring depends on individual. You can use meat, chicken, seafood or vegetables of your desire.

Ingredients for the Yam ring:


300 g yam
4 tbsps yam starch
4 tbsp boiling water
1 tsp sugar
a pinch of salt
1 tbsp shortening

Ingredients for the filling:
100 g meat
1 tbsp tomato sauce
1 big onion (cut into quarter)
1 tsp sugar
a dash of pepper
a pinch of salt

oil for frying

Method:

1. Clean and cut the yam into halves. Steam for about 20 minutes until soft.


2. Mash the yam thoroughly with a fork or potato masher.


3. Mix boiling water to the yam starch. Add to the mashed yam with the other ingredients for yam ring.


4. Shape the yam into a ring.


5. Let it rest for about half an hour.


6. Prepare ingredients for the filling.


a. Boil the meat in a pot till soft.


b.Strain the water and put aside.


c. Heat up a wok, fry big onions and the boiled meat for a few minutes. Add in the tomato sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Dish out and put aside.


7. Place the yam ring on a ladle and deep fry the yam ring in a wok till crispy.


8. When it turns golden brown and crispy, drain out the oil and put aside.


9. Serve the yam ring with the filling. Garnish with some salad leaves.


Note: The oil should be hot when frying the yam ring.
